Oshun Cafe, London's First Ever Açaí Berry Bowl Pop-Up - Food-Spotter
cereal cafe anyone?.
Oshun Café, London’s First Ever Acai Berry Bowl Pop-Up has opened in the hipster heart of London (Shoreditch) and the timing couldn’t be right in terms of all the other food specific places that have opened up in the past year or two –“So what makes this one a bit different?”
Weight loss.
“So I can stop taking my Acai pills to loose weight and have this instead?”
No, the weight loss part is a joke. But it IS fresh as can be on this side of the globe and i’ve been assured it’s high grade Acai berries.
“Looking rather good!”
The bowl itself is served like so:
1. Your chosen flavour selection is whizzed up in a blender along with the choice of how sweet you want it to be.
2. The said thick smoothie like mixture is poured into the bowl.
3. A selection of extra topping are added on top for taste and textural contrast.
As it was my first time sampling this, I would descibe the taste as a pleasant berry like taste with a hint of slight earthyness and a sweet undertone (somewhat similar to a banana for me). I ordered the Oshun Maya, described as “Aztec spices and the flavours of the best of British baking come together to create our Maya bowl”. This is short for a mix of açaí, raw cacao, cinnamon, freshly squeezed orange juice, avocado, strawberries and honey; topped with crumbled double choc chip cookie, popcorn, and blueberries.
“Sweet! How does it taste?”
Pretty darn nice. I would compare it close to a yogurt pot but the flavours and topping are a little more exciting than my dairy based comparison. The topping are essectial in providing a balance between the blended Acai berries and the crunchyness the toppings provide.
Get down there before it closes on 26th April!
